Gabrielle Douglas burst on to the national scene with a fourth place finish at the 2010 Nastia Liukin SuperGirl Cup in Worcester, Massachusetts. She moved from Virginia to West Des Moines, Iowa to train with Liang Chow, the coach of 2008 gold medalist Shawn Johnson. She contributed to the United States gold medal performance at the 2011 World Championships with a solid effort on the uneven bars.
Gabby revealed an upgraded bar routine at the 2012 AT&T American Cup in March. She received the highest all-around score in the women’s competition, ahead of the current world champion Jordyn Wieber. Douglas competed at the 2012 Visa Championships and was tied with Wieber after Day 1. She fell on her balance beam routine on Day 2, but still managed to bounce back with a silver medal in the all-around competition.
Gabrielle won the Olympic trials in early July giving her the automatic entry to the 2012 Olympics in London. She opened with a massive vault, her score of 16 moved her into first place, a spot she never relinquished. Gabby brought the arena spectators to their feet with a high flying uneven bar routine, her signature event.
Douglas will headline a United States team that will be favored to win the gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Joining Gabby on the team are Jordyn Wieber, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman and Kyla Ross.

Gabby on Rock Center – I’m Going to Do This Thing
2012 Olympic gymnast Gabrielle Douglas was featured on last night’s episode of Rock Center on NBC.
The feature discussed Gabby’s road to the Olympic games, the sacrifices her and her family have made, how she almost gave up her dream a few months ago and her rise to stardom after her win at the Olympic Trials.
Chris Jansing asked her about her feelings going into the Olympic games, Gabby’s response was “I’m Going to Do This Thing”. Douglas and her teammates will go for the gold starting with the qualification round on July 29th.
